The beginning of one's musical career is a very demanding time, packed with new skills that need to be mastered. To give our Beginning Band students a strong start on their instruments, the Lead Mine Band offers Virtual Band Camp each August. |

What is Virtual Band Camp?
Virtual Band Camp includes video lessons, Strong Start sheets, and support from Ms. Thompson. Customized for each instrument in the band, each video teaches specific skills students will need to play their instruments well, and Strong Start sheets feature fun and effective exercises to practice. Students can pause, rewind, or replay the lessons as many times as they like, and if they need help, Ms. Thompson is just a click or a phone call away.
What will we learn at Virtual Band Camp?
- How to put your instrument together
- How to hold your instrument properly
- How to sit with excellent posture
- Where to put your fingers on your instrument
- How to hold your mouth to create a good sound
- How to read and understand a fingering chart
- How to play 3-5 notes on your instrument
Is there a schedule for Virtual Band Camp?
All Virtual Band Camp videos and materials will be available here from August 1-31. Your child is welcome to watch and practice at his/her own pace throughout the month, and parents are welcome to help.
Students are asked to have the skills in the first three videos mastered by our first rehearsal. So, please encourage your child to get started early!
